Please revive ID3-TagIt

Please revive ID3-TagIt

It's the best MP3 tagger out there in my opinion.

I would really appreciate if someone could continue the development. The very best thing would be to open source it, so that this great piece of software wouldn't just disappear.

I agree. It is one of the most useful ID3 editors and would really like to see it developed further. Im sure there would be people willing to continue the development.

Add my vote to those who would love to see ID3-TagIT go open source, or go to someone who would help maintain it and develop it further.

I would be willing to help with the code myself. Please, hear the pleas of your fans! I've tried to use other ID3 editors, but none is as good as ID3-TagIT.

I'm also willing to code.

I have Vista 64, Win 2003 64, Win XP. Can code in C# to .Net 1.0 > 3.0. And have a decade of experience (full time role is Technical Architect).

I use this so much to keep a library of over 40,000 songs in order. Am happy to donate time and coding to keep it alive and move it forward.

I'd definitely be willing to code and help out as well. I also have Vista (32), Win 2003 (32) and Win XP. Experience with C# and VB.NET in .NET 1.1/2.0. This is by far the best tagging app I've used and would hate to see it die.

I must say this was the best (free) mp3 tag tool i've used ever before.
Now i have a machine running Windows Vista, id3tagit is not usable bacause it crashes very often.

Can't we just combine forces and start an open source project building an id3 tagit look-a-like? If it is succesful, maybe the origional author of id3tagit will support the project if he/she realizes that is one of the best ways (in my opinion) to serve the community.

If the origional author reads this, i want him or her to know that i think it should be considered to release id3tagit under an open source license. Please don't let your work die :).

I think this is a great idea. We could use Microsoft's Codeplex.com site. I'm in.

Hi! I may not have the extensive experience that some posters here have, but I would love to do my part for this project... I can code in C# 2.0... hope to see this project go open source :D (or a revival at least)

I only recently stumbled upon id3tagit and have to admit I would even pay for a continuation etc.

I have searched for years until coming to the conclusion there was no id3-tagger which worked the way I want it to work until this discovery!

Most of my development is PHP, freepascal/lazarus, Perl, Python (in order of current usage) and I have no experience in id3 tags except as an end user.

I would however be all too happy to help in any way I can including minor financial support, testing, or theorizing :)

Linux would be a double bonus as the winderz partition on this machine is already on life support with only a small vbox remnant left when thats figured out (special medical devices which have no hope of ever being moved to anything M$ doesnt have control over until after the apocalypse).

Additionally Mac support would be double bonus as some of my work stuff is already moved with completion scheduled for 1Q 2009.

Just new here and new user to the wonderfull software. I guess of us love this software. I'm testing it now in win 7 beta. it's good with few minor bugs. Hope this will go to open source. Kodus to Michael Plumper of the great work he started hope it's not the end.

ID3-Tagit is the best best best. It's because it uses simple rule-engines for converting from filename to tags.

And because it uses keystrokes in addition to a GUI.

It's so quick to take a directory of filenames, determine the rule, then convert the filenames to tags. Then quickly fix capitalization. Then move the tags back to the file names.

You start with some random directory of stuff, and within a few seconds, your tags are right and your files are renamed appropriately. All without using the stupid mouse.

NOTHING else does this. I run a virtual-machine and WinXP on my mac, just to run ID3-Tagit.

It would be a real shame to see it completely die. If anyone is thinking of writing a new one, please keep these features in mind.
