Tags for some tagged MP3s do not show up in ID3-TagIT

Postby gdv on Sat Aug 15, 2009 4:48 am

I have some mp3s saved from my Opera cache that clearly contain ID3 tags (artist, album, track name, track number, and track total), but none of these tags are displayed in ID3-TagIT, regardless of whether it is set to show ver. 1 or ver. 2 tags (although ID3-TagIT does indicate the tag format as Ver. 2.2 in the Ver. 2 column). Has anyone else run into this?

I'm wondering if the mp3s are encoded according to some newer standard that ID3-TagIT does not read properly, or if there is an ID3-TagIT setting/preference/tweak that I haven't found which will display the tags in ID3-TagIT.

I use MediaInfo a lot to identify different media (fantastic open source program by the way!!!), and the tags show up in MediaInfo. The tags are also detected by Mp3/Tag Studio 3.5, which I can use to rename the files using the tag info, but I MUCH prefer working with ID3-TagIT.

FWIW, MediaInfo also indicates all of the mp3s were encoded using the iTunes Writing Library (several each from v1.1, v7.0.2, v7.5, and v8.0.2), but I don't know if that is relevant or not. I can't recall if I've ever viewed mp3s encoded via the iTunes Writing Library in ID3-TagIT before (and I don't download iTunes media, so I have none to try), but ID3-TagIT displays the tags for any other tagged mp3s I've tried just fine.

If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.
