Query FreeDB - How does it work?

Query FreeDB - How does it work?

Postby Spankmaster79 on Thu Nov 29, 2007 9:16 am

Hi,

I used to search with words in FreeDB, but this doesn't seem to work anymore. If I try Something like "Alicia Keys" and mark Artist the query returns no matches.

If I start searching by files, it works. So what has happened to the search by words function.....it used to work...??? Or am I using it wrong??

i'm wondering, too. perhaps it's because freedb changed something to their api...

is there any way to get it working again?

has this been resolved?

Hi,

Just wondering if this has been resolved? Are there new settings?

Neither searching nor checking by files seems to work... :(

Thanks!

Re: Freedb query

Postby simonsorcerer on Fri Apr 11, 2008 9:02 pm

Hi guys,

same problem for me. The freedb query does not return any results. I checked the query in wireshark (network packet analyzer) and the query always goes to 195.214.216.10 which is not a correct freedb IP even though I have changed the freedb settings in ID3-TagIt preferences to many different hosts.
The real IP would be 195.214.216.38 but I haven't figured out a way to reroute the query to that one.
Please let me know if you find a solution.

Best regards,
Simon

I still can't get the text search to work but I've just tried enabling the proxy server part in Preferences and adding the new IP address as a proxy using Port 80 and it worked for Start search by files. :D

Thanks!

The solution could be as easy like this:

Go to the directory "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc" and open the file "hosts" with the Texteditor.

Go to the end of the file and add the following lines:
Code: Select all
195.214.216.38   195.214.216.10
195.214.216.38   freedb.freedb.org
195.214.216.38   cddb.cddb.com
195.214.216.38   cddb.cddb.org
195.214.216.38   cddb.cddb.net
195.214.216.38   us.cddb.com
195.214.216.38   sc.ca.us.cddb.com
195.214.216.38   sc2.ca.us.cddb.com
195.214.216.38   sj.ca.us.cddb.com
195.214.216.38   sj2.ca.us.cddb.com

You might need to turn the copyprotection of the file OFF before you are able to save the file back to your disk.

Query FreeDB Still Not Working

Postby guamshady on Wed Oct 08, 2008 2:25 am

I'm still having trouble with the Query FreeDB (F4) function! This is getting frustrating now. I've read many different solutions from different forums and blogs but none of them have been any help so far. What I'm hoping to find is a TRUE and PERMANENT solution to this issue. Does anybody have something that works? And if you do, can you step it out for me in clear detail? So many of these "solutions" are either worded in crappy english or lacking info, so PLEASE keep it clear.

FYI:
I'm running Windows Vista. The Query function worked fine with NO tweeks up until about a month ago. It suddenly stopped finding matches using both the Word Search and File Search for no apparent reason.

Sorry if I sound sour about this, but I'm burnt and need a real solution.

Been trying it too. I have another solution for it, using winpamp, right click the song/songs then send to auto tagger (powered by Gracenotes). Hope this will help.
